They occur mainly in Central Europe. It occurs naturally only in beech. Grown several alien species and numerous varieties of ornamental beech. Initially intensely green leaves then gently dull green. Fruit is bukiew, after ripening four flaps open releasing one or two peanuts brownish color. The tree reaches a maximum of 40 meters. It prefers shady places. Used in the manufacture of flooring and furniture. Beech is ideal for hedges because it tolerates pruning.

In the area of the Sopot Hippodrome, there is a glacial erratic with an engraved, stylized Gothic inscription in German, which can be translated as: "Here, the heart of the rider Gustav v. Puttkamer broke. The stone was erected in memory of the death of Gustav Puttkamer from the 2nd Hussar Regiment stationed in Gdańsk Wrzeszcz, who tragically died after falling from his horse during a race in Sopot.
