The Peasant Farmhouse on Sobieszewska Island
The Peasant Farmhouse, located on Sobieszewska Island in Gdańsk, is an exceptional example of 19th-century Żuławy rural architecture. The complex, covering 1.9 hectares, consists of a residential house, a partially residential granary, ruins of two barns, foundations of a barn with an impressive length of 30 meters, as well as a pond, an orchard, and a small park. Sobieszewska Island and the Vistula Lagoon are areas with a unique architectural character. These areas are famous for traditional rural buildings, including half-timbered houses and brick granaries, which testify to the wealth and resourcefulness of the former farmers, known as gburzy. The farmhouse on Świbnieńska Street fits perfectly into this landscape - the spaciousness of the buildings, the functionality of the layout, and the presence of an orchard and a pond reflect a practical approach to the organization of living and economic space.
