Sopot Racecourse - Equestrian Tradition by the Baltic Sea
The Sopot Racecourse is a unique facility in Europe, where from the stands you can enjoy a view of the sea, creating a one-of-a-kind combination of sporting competition and a maritime atmosphere. Its history dates back to the 1870s, when Prussian hussars from Gdańsk organized hunting races here as cavalry training. In 1898, flat and hurdle races began to be held regularly. It was then that the existing infrastructure elements were created: the track, two grandstands, and the totalizator hall.
During the interwar period, the Sopot racecourse, located in the Free City of Danzig, gained European fame. It was the arena for international equestrian competitions, which perfectly fit the character of the summer resort. Its excellent track and picturesque surroundings - on one side wooded hills, on the other a beach 400 meters away - attracted horse racing enthusiasts from all over the continent.
After World War II, races were resumed, but in the 1980s, the racecourse was transformed into a training center and equestrian sports center. Racing returned only in the late 1990s, when the facility was taken over by the city of Sopot.
Today, the racecourse combines the functions of a racecourse, a training center, and a place for recreational horse riding enthusiasts. Competitions are organized here, especially in show jumping. There is a horse hotel and a carriage rental on the premises. The Sopot Racecourse, with its unique location and rich history, remains an important point on the map of the region.
