Small Arsenal in Gdańsk

monuments

The building served as a warehouse for the Gdansk arsenal, where heavy artillery and mortars for nearby bastions were stored, and it was also intended to relieve the Great Armory. The structure was constructed between 1643-1645 and was designed by Jan Strakowski. The ground floor stored heavy weaponry, which could be quickly moved to the square through four gates when needed. The upper floors stored pistols, shotguns, and saddles, which could be directly delivered to the square through large windows. The front of the building still features the large coat of arms of Gdansk with the date 1645. Today, the Small Armory belongs to the Gdansk Academy of Fine Arts, housing sculpture studios.
