Connert and Schuman Tenement House
The tenement house in the mature Renaissance style, with a touch of French and Italian influences, is characterized by pilasters surrounding the entire structure. The cornices of each floor are clearly marked, adorned with triglyphs, metopes, and bucrania. The gable is decorated with niches with putti, a dormer, and a figure of Zeus. The tenement was funded by the Conert family in 1560, but shortly thereafter, in 1606, it was sold. Over the years, the tenement passed through various owners. Longest owned by the Schuman family for over two centuries from the mid-17th century, hence the name of the tenement. This family produced 5 mayors, 4 royal bailiffs, and 11 city councilors. In modern times, the tenement was rebuilt, and in 1912 it was converted into a café. Some of the furnishings from the foyer were transferred to the Old Town Hall. Since 1917, the building has been owned by the Berlin company "Disconto Gesellschaft Danzig". During the Second World War, the tenement suffered significant damage but was rebuilt. Currently, it houses the tourist information office.
